China has for several years been steadily increasing its investments in the gas and oil upstream outside its national frontiers as well as in China itself. Central Asia has been a particular focus of activity, with investments in Turkmenistan (primarily the Central Asia Pipeline to China, but also in upstream developments); in Kazakhstan (investment in copper, oil and uranium); Tajikistan (electricity infrastructure and roads) and Kyrgystan (electricity and railways). But if Central Asia has grabbed the headlines we should also remember that Chinese companies are active in many other areas.
