Which economic sectors are included in the service?
Gas Strategies long term gas demand forecasts comprise three major economic sectors: power and heat, industry and residential and commercial. Agriculture, forestry and fisheries are included in residential and commercial. The transport sector, distribution losses and own use in the energy and transformation sectors are aggregated as “Other”.

What geographical regions does the service cover?
The service covers the entire EU 27, Switzerland and Turkey. Some smaller countries are aggregated into larger blocs.

What time period does the service cover?
Gas Strategies forecasts gas demand to 2030 for the entire region covered. The end-date is periodically extended to maintain the forecast period at approximately 20 years.

Does the service incorporate historical data to allow comparison with the gas demand forecasts?
Historical data from 1990 onwards is provided in the model, split into the same categories as the forecasts.

Is any other information provided with the service?
Existing and potential gas import capacity is provided for each country for which individual gas demand forecasts are available, together with existing long term import contracts (over one year) and a Gas Strategies forecast of indigenous gas production. This information is provided to set the gas demand forecast in the context of a country’s ability to procure and transport its potential gas requirements.

Where does the base data come from?
All of the historical data used to base the gas demand forecasts is taken directly from the International Energy Agency (IEA). GDP data is obtained from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and population data is obtained from the World Health Organisation (WHO). Information on gas import contracts, gas import capacity and power generation is taken from a range of governmental, industrial and media sources.

Is gas demand forecasted under different scenarios?
Gas Strategies develops its forecasts under a range of market scenarios. These are centred on currently relevant market trends and a full description of our methodology is available on our website.

How often is the service updated?
Gas Strategies updates the gas demand model annually. Contextual gas import capacity and contract data is updated on a quarterly basis.

How do I access the data?
Subscribers access the service by logging in to our website.  Once you are logged in you can download the models to your desktop.

What format is the service delivered in?
We deliver the model in Microsoft Excel format.

How much does it cost?
The cost depends on the number of subscriptions you require. Please email us for more details. A standard 5 user license is £6,300.
