Qatar Petroleum’s plan to boost LNG production to 100 mpta by 2022-24 will put pressure on liquefaction projects targeting first LNG in that window, with Qatar more than capable of marketing an additional 23 mtpa, market sources told Gas Matters Today.

There is no doubt the country can deliver the additional 30% of LNG volumes, sources said. Qatar is home to some of the largest gas reserves in the world, which can be produced cheaper than virtually any other country. This, coupled with existing liquefaction infrastructure, will make it hard for Qatar’s competitors to compete on price.
