Wartsila to build 100 MW of new gas-fired capacity in UK

Finnish technology firm Wartsila plans to build two 50 MW gas-fired plants in the UK counties of Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire under an engineering, procurement and construction contract with utility Centrica, which hopes for the units to come online in 2018.

The two ‘Smart’ plants are intended to help balance the UK power grid and will be able to reach full output from a cold start in under two minutes, Wartsila said in a statement.
