On 18 September, Scotland will hold a referendum on independence from the rest of the UK – a historic vote that could potentially end the 307-year-old union. Given Scotland’s geographical position, North Sea oil and gas has unsurprisingly been one of the most fiercely contested issues in an increasingly heated political campaign. From the volume of remaining reserves and who might own them to the impact on investment in the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS), to the shape of a future British energy market – if Scots vote to leave the UK, what are the implications for the sector? Gas Strategies examines the top five energy questions being asked in the run up to the referendum.
