Preliminary details of the US Clean Power Plan sparked controversy among gas industry advocates in early August, despite offering the fuel the top role in the nation’s power mix within ten years. The plan envisages a 32% cut in US carbon emissions by 2030 based on 2005 levels, and sets out non-binding interim objectives for states and native territories – but leaves each free to choose their own course of action.
