INPEX, Japan’s largest oil and gas exploration and production company, is involved in more than 70 projects globally. The company is approaching the commissioning stage of its 8.9 mtpa Ichthys liquefaction project in Australia – a journey that began in 1998, when its bid for a petroleum exploration permit located 200 km off the coast of Western Australia (WA) was accepted. Since then, it has acquired from Shell a 17.5% interest in the 3.6 mtpa Prelude FLNG project, located 475 km off the coast of WA. In this interview, INPEX answers a number of questions related to the Ichthys project and general company strategy.
