Australia could be forced to agree a permanent maritime border with neighbouring East Timor, potentially throwing sovereignty over of the Greater Sunrise oil and gas field into jeopardy, after an international court ruling.
The Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague, acting on behalf of the UN’s Conciliation Commission, said this week that it will hear East Timor’s case for a permanent maritime border located equidistant to the two countries.
