South Africa has selected Richards Bay and Coega as the sites for two LNG-to-power projects with a combined capacity of 3 GW, energy minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson revealed this week as she presented a preliminary glimpse at the country’s LNG-to-power plan.
The projects, part of the country’s wider 3,126 GW IPP gas-to-power programme, will consist of a 2 GW power plant located at Richards Bay, 170 km north of Durban, and a 1 GW plant in Coega in the Eastern Cape.
