The UK government has given Cuadrilla resources the green light to begin hydraulic fracturing at four wells in northern England, marking the first permission of its kind since the lifting of a nationwide moratorium on the activity in 2012.
Communities minister Sajid Javid granted permission to drill at the Preston New Road site, following a prolonged planning battle that has been on-going since 2014.
