Indian government ministries hope to promote gas by cutting taxes on LNG imported for use outside the power sector and imposing new levies on pet coke and furnace oil in the next fiscal budget, according to local news reports.
Gas covered 7% of India’s primary demand in 2015, BP statistics show. Of the 50.6 Bcm consumed over the course of the year, roughly 45% arrived as LNG.
