The government of Japan has underscored its commitment to developing a regional LNG trading hub by calling for an end to long-term contracts containing destination clauses.
Ministers believe contracts that restrict the onward sale of surplus liquefied gas are holding back the emergence of a liquid Asian market that could support development of new demand for LNG.
