Falling production at the giant Groningen field and decarbonisation efforts raise major questions for the Netherlands and its prominent role in the European gas market, according to a report by the Oxford Institute of Energy Studies (OIES) published on Tuesday.
The Netherlands currently produces and exports more gas than any other European state, bar Norway, but that position and other pillars of the Dutch economy could change, OIES senior research fellow Anouk Honore wrote.
