Natural gas will continue to play a key role for decades in limiting global emissions as policy actions and market signals push the energy mix towards low-carbon sources, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
However, the extent of this role will be dictated by carbon pricing, emission caps and pollution regulations – which will drive coal-to-gas switching – as well as the use of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) for gas to survive during a low-carbon energy transition.
