Bermuda-based Hoegh LNG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the world’s largest LNG carrier fleet operator, Qatar’s Nakilat, to collaborate on floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) projects.
The agreement is seen by some market observers as a volte-face, as Qatari companies were previously opposed to entering the regasification space. The move is also seen as Qatar looking to find new markets to sell its LNG into, following Doha’s new target to expand LNG production to 100 mtpa by 2024.
