Chinese imports of Australian LNG from the Port of Gladstone on Curtis Island in Queensland hit a record high in June driven by strong economic growth and coal-to-gas switching to reduce pollution in major cities.
The uptick from 0.922 mt in June last year and 0.928 mt in May to 1.03 mt in June represents the fourth consecutive monthly increase and comes despite the big three state-owned Chinese buyers each facing an oversupply of LNG.
