Spain has secured a new wave of wind and solar investment, but without a big shift in coal and European carbon prices, one of the continent’s largest national fleets of gas-fired plants will have to fight even harder to turn a profit.
Two government tenders this year have assigned rights for around 8 GW of new solar and wind capacity, which is scheduled to come online before 2020 and help meet European Union energy goals, the Spanish energy ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
