Drax Group is considering converting two ageing coal-fired units at the UK’s largest power station in Yorkshire to run on natural gas. Units 5 and/or 6 could be repowered with up to two 1.8 GW gas turbines, a heat recovery steam generator and cooling systems, plus a battery storage facility of up to 200 MW capacity.
