Canada has for some time been considered a slow mover in the otherwise rapidly progressing LNG sector. Multiple proposed projects ran out of steam in the 2010s when they hit various regulatory and infrastructure roadblocks, but movement has picked up in the last year as ventures along Canada’s west coast have made progress, with Shell’s flagship LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, British Columbia (BC) currently 85% complete and targeting an early 2025 start-up.
