Surprise! Surprise! Markets work: Why reports of a January British gas supply crisis were overheated

Unusually cold winter weather in Britain in the first half of January promoted headlines of a potential gas supply shortage, but there was no panic among followers of the British gas market. Gas Matters explores what happened during this January cold spell. Despite unplanned interruptions in Norwegian supplies, record demand levels were effectively managed, but the conditions met during last month’s cold snap may not be repeated in future.
