The Trans-Anatolian pipeline (TANAP) is 77% complete according to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, but major finance holes must be filled before the project can be completed.
Baku has only secured USD 1.4 billion of the USD 4 billion needed to bring TANAP into operation and needs to secure an additional USD 2-3 billion for the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) which brings the gas to Europe, according to Zaur Shiriyev – an Azeri academic and former Academy fellow with the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House.
