US LNG exports with prices linked to Henry Hub natural gas prices rather than oil prices have been seen by many buyers as one way of reducing the average price Asian buyers pay for their LNG. However, the decline in oil prices in 2014 may mean that the objective of reducing LNG prices is achieved before the first LNG from projects in the Lower-48 US States starts to arrive in 2016. The decline in the Brent crude oil price from its peak in June will, when it feeds through into JCC* in a few months’ time, lead to a reduction in prices of LNG under long-term contract.
