Russia’s Gazprom has rejected a request from Ukraine to reduce the volume of Russian gas it is required to import this year, Reuters reported on Thursday. Ukraine’s state gas firm Naftogaz said it had the right to cut imports, shifting the focus of negotiations to volumes rather than the usual sticking point of price. But Gazprom reminded Ukraine that “the time for discussion on contract volumes in the new year has passed”.
