Santos has made further headway with its Barossa gas project that will backfill its Darwin LNG plant after signing a letter of intent (LOI) to sell a 12.5% stake in the offshore gas field to Japan’s JERA, a stakeholder and offtaker in Darwin LNG. The deal means Santos needs to sell a further 10% stake in Barossa to reach its target ownership level of 40% – but it has not brought any clarity on when a deferred final investment decision might be taken.
