A potential decision by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) later this month to impose a global 0.5% sulphur content cap in fuel consumed by ocean-going ships is unlikely to turn shipowners to LNG as an alternative to oil products, sources told Gas Matters Today on Thursday.
Last April, the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) agreed in principle to take a decision on the implementation date of the cap, which could be either 2020 or 2025, at its next meeting in London on October 24-28.
