Sri Lanka, which currently depends for fuel on oil imports, is considering whether to purchase LNG or coal to supply its planned 600 MW Sampur power plant to meet the country’s rising energy demand. The Sri Lanka LNG Committee is to hand over its report to the government by March and is expected to support LNG imports, saying: “With the tremendous scope for development our country can waste no more time to tap natural gas.”
