The attractions of floating regasification are widely known. Floating regas can be much quicker, cheaper and easier to permit than conventional onshore projects. It can act as a bridge solution while onshore facilities are constructed and, when no longer needed, it can be deployed elsewhere.

By 2020 the number of floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) is expected to rise to around 35, from 26 FSRUs operating or available for new projects today, not to mention a handful of floating storage units (FSUs). The floating regas business is expected to continue growing beyond 2020, as new players gain confidence, making it even more competitive than it is today. Adding momentum is a growing push from LNG producers needing to find new markets for new waves of supply.
