The inauguration of the long-awaited phases 9 and 10 of the South Pars development has brought much needed relief to Iran's domestic gas market. With the new US administration signalling that it is willing to open dialogue with Iran, many are hoping that the upcoming Iranian presidential election in June may lead to a breakthrough in relations between Iran and the West. While the chances of a rapprochement remain slim, such a political breakthrough would be good news not just for Iranian gas consumers but also for consumers outside Iran hoping to import gas from the world's second-largest reserves holder.
