Wingas, the joint-venture between Wintershall of Germany and Russia's Gazprom, began deliveries of gas through the Midal-Stegal line on October 1, a year ahead of the first start-up estimated for the line. The gas is destined for Wingas parent BASF and distribution company customer Südhessiche Gas und Wasser AG. The first gas celebrations took place at BASF, Ludwigshafen, in the presence of Gazprom director Rem Vyachirev. Old Wingas sparring partner Ruhrgas is not letting the grass grow under its feet either, announcing a co-operative venture with the Norwegian gas majors and admitting to being close to an agreement with the UK's National Power.
