The ongoing dispute between Russia and Yugoslavia, which resulted in the cutting off and re-connection of gas supplies (see GBE, December 2000, p19) seems to have been resolved. Russia and Yugoslavia signed a supply contract on December 28 which provides for the delivery of 1.5 Bcm of Russian gas to Yugoslavia in 2001, and gas started to flow on January 1. Deliveries should amount to 160 MMcm in January and to 450 MMcm in the first quarter. According to Milan Vulin, the general manager of NIS, the Serbian oil and gas company, these supplies should be enough to cover demand for all customers able to pay for their gas bills. No details of the contract, including the price and arrangements for the settlement of the outstanding debt for previous deliveries, were released. Vulin said, however, that the terms of the contract were more favourable than in recent deals struck with Russia.
