Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and Calpine yesterday said they had received interest amounting to 2.5 Bcf/day during the open season for their proposed Sonoran pipeline. The 1,160-mile pipeline is to transport gas from New Mexico to energy-starved California. The company received requests for transport capacity for 1 Bcf/day of gas for phase one of the pipeline, which would run from the San Juan Basin, New Mexico, to Needles and Topock near the Californian border. Another 1.5 Bcf/day of gas capacity was requested for phase two, which would extend the pipeline from the Californian border to the San Francisco Bay area.
