Europe’s wind, solar and gas associations are holding formal talks in an attempt to agree policy recommendations aimed at developing markets and regulation to reward renewables and flexible gas-fired generation, which they see as the optimal combination for Europe’s future energy mix. The talks come against a background of concern that beleaguered utilities, market disincentives and grid system volatility could endanger the ongoing move towards a smarter, lower-carbon and better distributed power system in Europe. Gas Strategies speaks to some of the participants in this process and assesses the outlook for a more unified energy system.
