Two federal sales of offshore oil and natural gas leases in the Central and Eastern Gulf of Mexico have attracted more than $3.7 billion in high bids. US secretary of the interior Dirk Kempthorne said it would bring higher royalty rates and enhanced revenue sharing for Gulf States, and underscored the region's continuing importance as a source of domestic energy production.
