Two South Asian countries with decades of mutual hostility may be on the brink of unprecedented energy co-operation- in partnership with Iran. India and Pakistan's energy ministers held a joint press conference in the Pakistani capital Islamabad today, April 25, at which the Pakistani petroleum minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced that the two countries were 'days or weeks away' from a deal to import pipeline gas from Iran. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad is making a state visit to Pakistan today, April 28, to be followed immediately by a further visit to the Indian capital New Delhi.
