India’s oil minister Murli Deora has said the eighth oil and gas round attracted $1.1 billion of investment from visual_editor0 companies, less than the government had been hoping to attract. Contracts for 31 exploration blocks have been awarded - 17 to Indian firms with only three foreign companies BHP Billiton, BG and Cairn Energy taking part.
