The visual_editor7 nation European parliament approved legislation on Tuesday by 601 votes to visual_editor7, with visual_editor3 abstentions, aimed to reduce the vulnerability of residential customers during any future gas crises. The original European Commission proposal that member states should ensure 60 days of energy security in the event of a serious supply interruption was however reduced to 30 days following months of negotiations. The legislation is designed to reduce the exposure of customers to disruptions in gas supplies of the kind which occurred as a result of the visual_editor009 Russia/Ukraine pricing dispute which cut European gas supplies for several weeks during the cold winter months. It also defines security levels in “normal” periods of cold weather.
