The updated offshore oil and gas plan for the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) launched last week by the US Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, has been criticised by the American Petroleum Institute (API) as "an extension of the offshore drilling ban that would halt job creation and economic growth.” Under his latest proposal parts of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico remain under a congressional moratorium, while areas in the Mid and South Atlantic planning areas – once marked as a possibility for offshore drilling - are no longer under consideration for potential development until visual_editor017.
