The US House of Representatives has voted to speed up the award of oil and gas exploration leases in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia. A new bill, voted through the House yesterday by 266 votes to 149, could override the cautious approach to new offshore licensing taken by President Obama’s administration, and open up access to 6.65Tcf of natural gas in Virginia, proponents claim.
