EnBW chief executive Hans-Peter Villis said on Monday that fossil fuels are no option to bridge the power generation gap in Germany following the shutdown of eight nuclear plants. Villis said coal was not an option because of its large carbon emissions footprint while the main stumbling block for more gas-to-power generation would be the link between gas and oil prices. “Our view is that it would be worth considering linking gas to the price of electricity, when agreeing a long-term contract for purchasing gas that is earmarked for power generation,” EnBW spokesman Ulrich Schröder told Gas Matters Today.
