The UK government has refused to ban shale gas exploration, despite calls to do so from environmental groups and opposition politicians. In a response to an enquiry by MPs on the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee into shale gas, the government did not dispute the committee’s conclusion that a moratorium is neither “justified or necessary”.
