The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted Shell its final air-quality permits, which the company needs in order to start drilling in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas north of Alaska, federal officials announced on Monday. With the permits granted, Shell looks set to stick to its plan to drill two wells a year in the Beaufort Sea in 2012 and 2013, and three wells in the Chukchi Sea during the same period.
