Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies cannot be effective in the wider UK power industry unless current emissions performance standards (EPS) – a restriction on the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by power stations – are applied to gas power stations as well as coal, according to Chris Littlecott, senior policy adviser for environmental think tank Green Alliance.
