Natural gas and renewables are set to play crucial roles in meeting future energy demand – the importance of which will be heightened if governments respond to Japan’s nuclear crisis by scaling back nuclear electricity generation. However governments need to be honest with their populations about the challenges presented in trying to replace baseload nuclear with intermittent renewables. This was one of several messages to policy-makers delivered today by the International Energy Agency as it presented its latest World Energy Outlook (WEO) in London.
