Gazprom deputy chairman Alexander Medvedev has defended Gazprom’s commercial position in the recent shortfall of gas supply to Europe, telling TV channel Russia Today that “there was no cutting of Russian gas supply on the part of Gazprom”. Medvedev pointed out that Gazprom in some cases supplied more gas than its contractual obligations. And he used the demand spike as an example of the necessity for long-term supply contracts.
