The Australian government on Tuesday released rules for the allocation of $9.2 billion in free permits for emissions-intensive industries under its carbon trading scheme, which starts in July. A total of 36 industrial sectors, including the LNG industry, will receive a free allocation of up to 94.5% of their requirements in the first year of the scheme, reducing the carbon price they have to pay to A$1.30/tonne from A$23/tonne.
