The US Geological Survey has for the first time published estimates of the potential for undiscovered, technically recoverable onshore shale oil and gas resources in Alaska’s North Slope. The estimates range from 0-80 Tcf of gas and 0-2 billion barrels of oil – representing technically recoverable oil and gas resources, which are those quantities of oil and gas producible using currently available technology and industry practices. Production from the Alaskan North Slope shales has never been attempted, primarily due to economic and infrastructure considerations.
