India’s government on Friday awarded less than half of the oil and gas blocks offered under its ninth exploration licencing round in March 2012. The government confirmed that bids were received for 33 of the 34 blocks – eight located in deep water, seven in shallow water, off both the eastern and western coasts, with the remaining 19 located onshore in the Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tripura and Assam states.
