BP has signed lease deals with landowners in Ohio to gain access to around 84,000 acres of land on the Utica/Point Pleasant shale formation, the oil and gas major said on Tuesday. The formation, located in western Ohio, is described as being “relatively new and very promising”, with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimating recoverable Utica shale potential between 3.8 and 15.7 Tcf of natural gas.
