The UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC)on Monday published an independent report recommending a number of proposed measures to mitigate the risks of seismic tremors caused by fracking, a drilling method used to extract shale gas. With new controls in place – such as a warning system to detect tremors – fracking is expected to be given the go-ahead, but the public will first have six weeks to comment on the proposals before a final decision is made.
