The UK government’s plans to introduce legislation for the forthcoming Electricity Market Reform (EMR) – presented in the Queen’s Speech on Wednesday – have been welcomed by low-carbon power generators. The government hopes the legislation will be enacted by 2013, supporting low-carbon generation from 2014 through a new capacity market and feed-in tariffs with Contracts for Difference (FiT-CfD). The Bill also proposes setting up an independent, industry-financed nuclear regulator.
